My research aims at understanding the role of Rho GTPases in innate immunity. To this end, I am using Drosophila melanogaster as a model to study Staphylococcus aureus infection. When I am not in the lab, I am doing scuba diving around the world.

My research focuses on the molecular mechanisms that underlie innate immune sensing to bacterial infection.  My initial work in the lab has demonstrated a novel mechanism that mannose-binding lectin, a soluble pattern-recognition receptor, cooperates with toll-like receptors 2 and 6 in regulating the host response to S. aureus infection.   I am currently investigating the role of phagocytosis in sensing and initiating inflammatory response to bacteria such as E. coli and S. aureus by using macrophages as a cell model.
