Seed Lab People

Linda Chun Assistant in Molecular Biology
Education BS in Chemistry, Illinois Institute of Technology; PhD in Neurobiology, Harvard University

My research focus is to understand the molecular mechanisms that underlie immune evasion by tumor cells. Gene arrays and high-throughput genetic screening by expression cloning and RNAi are being used to identify signalling pathways that mediate escape in an ocular tumor model system.

  Isin Dalkilic-Liddle Research Fellow
Education BS in Biology and Chemistry, MIT; PhD in Genetics, Harvard University

My current research focuses on mechanisms of nuclear receptor activation. More specifically, I am working on identifying pathways that activate and/or repress orphan nuclear receptor ERR1 and its coactivator PGC1 mediated transcription through utilizing whole genome-wide expression cloning.

Sandip Datta   Sandip Datta Research Fellow
Education PhD, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi
Interests Systems Biology and Bioinformatics

I am interested in applying the methods of complex systems analysis to the study of biological systems. My current project is to examine the implications of chaos in biological feedback and control circuits.

  Hwijin Kim Research Fellow
Education PhD, U. of Wisconsin-Madison
Interests

My research has focused on the application of mathematics, statistics and computer simulation as tools to facilitate an integrated understanding of virus-host interactions and their therapeutic implications. I have worked on the intracellular and population-level dynamics of various viruses including HIV-1, HBV, HCV, and bacteriophage Qb, and have suggested novel and robust antiviral strategies based on their dynamic characteristics. I am currently working on cDNA library screening, both experimental and computational.

  Naifang Lu Research Lab Manager
Education BM Second Medical College of Beijing
Interests Develop new technology and animal models

I have been working with gene targeting projects and generating transgenic mice and knockout/knockin mice by pronuclear and blastocyst microinjection since 1991. Before joining Dr. Seed's lab in 1995, I worked for Dr. Richard Behringer at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and for Dr. Martin M. Matzuk at Baylor College of Medicine. I am currently engaged in projects to develop new technology and generate new mouse models.

  Rasma Niedra Research Lab Technologist
Education BS, Geneva College
Interests Tissue culture

I culture cell lines for the Center for Computational and Integrative Biology, and prepare media and reagents. I've been working for Brian Seed for a number of years. The new environment in the Simches Research building is a pleasure to work in.

  Harald Prosper Senior Animal Technologist
Education Lab Animal Technologist certification
Interests Taking care of the lab animals and watching soccer

I maintain the stock of mice for the Seed Lab, Freeman Lab and Oettinger Lab. I have worked for the Massachusetts General Hospital for 11 years, in the animal facilities for the entire period. My plan is to take the Lab Animal Technologist Generalist certification next. I like playing and watching soccer, and I especially enjoy spending time with my three children.

  Slim Sassi Research Fellow
Education PhD, Biomedical Sciences, College of Medicine, U. of Florida
Interests Molecular evolution, molecular biology, evolution of complex systems and cool new technologies

I am currently working on a project to decipher complex biological systems. I will attempt to develop an approach to synergize molecular evolution and molecular biology to understand these systems. This approach will involve computational molecular evolutionary methods, high-throughput genetic screening and other classical molecular biology methods. More details soon…

  Prabhat Kumar Singhal Research Fellow
Education PhD, Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD)
Interests Signal transduction, stem cells and small RNA molecular biology

My primary research project will be on the dedifferentiation of cell types into stem cells. Visit again soon for more details.

  Ming-Hsiang (Vicky) Sung Research Fellow
Education PhD in Molecular Microbiology and Immunology, U. of Southern California
Interests I want to understand the mechanisms of disease development and find better cures for them

I was trained in the field of molecular microbiology and immunology, specifically with HBV, HCV, HDV, HIV, Mycoplasma, Neisseria, Trypanosoma and a little gene therapy in human ES cells. My current project is to develop a novel strategy for studying signal transduction and therapy for diseases.

  Huajun Wang Bioinformatics Specialist
Education PhD in Neurobiology, Columbia University
Interests Bioinformatics software development

My main interest is biological and chemical data management, analysis, and integration. After a bioinformatics postdoc training at Jackson Laboratory, I have mostly worked on bioinformatics software supporting the human genome project, SNP discovery and large-scale protein-protein interaction study.
