Directions to the Center for Computational and Integrative Biology at the MGH Main Campus
We are on the seventh floor of the Richard B. Simches Research Building, located at 185 Cambridge Street in Boston. Brian Seed, the Director, is in room 7228, located just through the door on the office side as you exit the elevator. The phone number is 617-726-5975, or click here to email Brian: . From elsewhere within the hospital (house phone) the number is 6-5975. Access to the laboratories is restricted at the building entry at street level and in the elevators.
From Cambridge Street the Simches Center is hidden by the smaller building at 175 Cambridge Street in front of it; to get to our building, enter the parking lot and proceed to the large glass building aht spans the back of the lot.
To get to the Simches Research Building follow one of the options below:
Subway At the MBTA Red Line Charles/MGH stop exit to the side marked "hospitals" (cross street toward the right as you exit the station) and proceed up Cambridge Street away from the river on the left side of the street. Past the intersection of Blossom and Cambridge (the Holiday Inn, three blocks up Cambridge Street) is a large glass building followed by an above-ground entrance to a parking lot. Enter the parking lot and proceed to the Simches Research Building, the large building in front of you. The name is over the entrance.
Car If you come from west of Boston, say from the Mass Turnpike, take the exit marked Allston/Brighton and bear right, following the signs to Storrow Drive East. About two miles later, there is an exit marked Government Center, which you take and proceed through the traffic light at the traffic circle to head roughly straight (away from the river) up Cambridge Street. The first left is the hospital, and the visitors' parking garage is to the right as you enter. Past the second traffic light (Blossom Street, Holiday Inn on corner) is an above-ground entrance to the parking lot for the Simches building on the left side of the street, opposite the Fire House.
If you come from the south of Boston, take the expressway (I-93) north to Exit 26, marked Storrow Drive/Cambridge. Follow the exit keeping to the left at all options. The Government Center exit is the first exit on Storrow Drive and is a left lane exit. At its end you will enter a traffic circle underneath a bridge. Exit the traffic circle as though making a left turn relative to the direction you entered the circle. This is Cambridge Street. The first left is the hospital, and the visitors' parking garage is to the right as you enter. Past the second traffic light (Blossom Street, Holiday Inn on corner) is an above-ground entrance to the parking lot for the Simches building on the left side of the street, opposite the Fire House.
If you come from the north of Boston, take the expressway (I-93) south to the Storrow Drive exit. Once on Storrow Drive, the Government Center exit is the first exit, and is a left lane exit. Follow the instructions above (from south of Boston) to get to the hospital or the Simches lot.
If you come from Cambridge, take either Broadway or Main Street (intersects Massachusetts Avenue near Central Square) to their respective ends, which converge on the Longfellow Bridge. Cross the bridge to the traffic circle on the Boston side, continue on away from the river up Cambridge Street, and follow the directions above.
From the MGH Parking Garage to Simches
Exiting the garage, turn right on Parkman Street (parallels Cambridge Street), proceed one block and cross Blossom Street to enter the west end of the Simches Research Building. Go in the doors, up the stairs to the right, outside, and take a left along the sidewalk that abuts the parking lot. The entrance to the building is past the second revolving door. There is a security desk staffed 24 hours a day; you will have to show identification and arrange to call someone to be let in. Becky Vinci (726-5978) is likely to be around during business hours.
Cab from Logan Airport Provide the street address, 185 Cambridge Street, near Government Center. If the driver has trouble identifying where this is, tell him or her that it is just up the street from the Holiday Inn. There are several buildings at the same approximate address. The most visible from the street is 175 Cambridge, which is a three-story glass building. The Simches Research Building is behind this, across the parking lot behind 175 Cambridge.
Shuttle from 65 Landsdowne Street/MIT There are two vans that depart at the same time so it is important to make sure that you get in the one that has MGH written on the side. The vans are white and depart from near the collection of rocks in a cluster outside 65 Landsdowne, and make a stop at MIT on Mass Ave just past the principal crosswalk in front of the main administration building. Upon arriving at MGH, walk around the corner (in the direction of the shuttle’s movement), following Blossom street towards Cambridge. The entrance to the Simches bldg is on the left side of the street just before the Holiday Inn. Go in the doors, up the stairs to the right, outside and take a left along the sidewalk that fronts the parking lot. The entrance to the building is past the second revolving door.
